OCR Studio has launched One-Shot KYC – a new solution that allows users to complete the entire identity verification step during account opening by taking a single selfie with their ID. From this one image, the system extracts required ID data, automatically fills in the registration form, and compares the ID portrait with the customer’s face to check whether the presenter is the legitimate document owner. One-Shot KYC operates directly on the end user’s device in both mobile applications and browsers, enabling customers of banks, fintech companies, telecom operators, marketplaces, and other digital services to complete identity verification in just seconds.
Lengthy identity verification procedures can become a major obstacle to customer onboarding. According to Cornerstone Advisors’ recent report, an average of 3.36 online checking account applications are abandoned for every account successfully opened. In conventional KYC workflows, customers are often asked to photograph their identity document and then take a separate selfie. OCR Studio’s solution combines these steps, allowing users to complete the entire capture process with a single selfie. This helps businesses accelerate onboarding, minimize friction, and improve conversion rates.
One-Shot KYC performs both ID scanning and face matching locally on the user’s smartphone, tablet, or desktop, without transmitting document images, selfies, or extracted personal data to external servers for processing. The solution operates without an internet connection and supports mobile applications as well as any popular browsers through WebAssembly.
The technology is also adapted for real-world onboarding conditions – whether users are on the move, riding public transport, capturing documents in poor lighting, or holding them at an angle. One-Shot KYC handles glare, perspective distortion, blur, and camera movement, allowing customers to complete identity verification without having to adjust to the system’s requirements or repeatedly retake photos.
Previously, OCR Studio announced that One-Shot KYC had received trademark protection from the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism. The launch of the technology marks the company’s next step in establishing One-Shot KYC as a new standard for frictionless digital onboarding.
