| CMCC, the leading global research center on climate change, brings its international expertise to COP30 in Brazil. CMCC scientists’ knowledge and understanding of the latest findings from the most advanced climate studies support negotiations and decision-making on climate policies at the Conference of the Parties (COP30). CMCC is actively involved in key topics at COP30, including forests and emission reductions, adaptation policies and solutions, the impact of climate change on health, and the resilience of coastal areas. Below is a list (updated daily) of the events and people representing CMCC climate research in Belém. Forests, TFFF, and greenhouse gases At the Brazilian COP, the issue of forests is even more central to the climate debate: here, various aspects of the negotiations come together, such as policies and tools aimed at a net-zero society, the absorption of CO2 from the atmosphere, and the resulting land use changes, with deforestation, reforestation, and agriculture emerging as key issues. Anna Pirani, director of the CMCC research program “Predicting socio-economic outcomes in a changing climate”, will participate in the negotiations as part of the scientific support delegation at COP and as moderator of the event What you can’t measure, you can’t manage: Improving GHG estimation for informed climate policy (November 14, 11:30 AM at the Italian pavilion in Belém). Maria Vincenza Chiriacò will participate in negotiations within the topic group dedicated to Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU).Climate impacts and how to address them The consequences of climate change on socio-economic systems, the distribution of responsibilities, various adaptation sectors, the vulnerability of human communities and environmental systems, and how to finance solutions and adaptation strategies are topics that the negotiation process assigns specific working groups to.
