OCR Studio, a developer of optical character recognition technologies, has expanded its document forensics system, OCR ID-verify – it can now detect a broader range of forgeries with substituted fields and photos, masked data blocks, composited image fragments, and injected foreign elements. The updated version allows businesses to reliably expose fraud schemes, including AI-driven deepfake and morphing-style attacks, during KYC and client onboarding. The upgraded OCR ID-verify will be showcased at MWC Barcelona, the leading international exhibition for the mobile communications industry, from 2 to 5 March 2026.

ID document fraud is one of the most acute challenges companies have to face these days with millions of dollars lost annually to fraudsters who opened accounts under false identities. There are hundreds of different forgery types from classic physical manipulations to advanced digital fakes used to bypass verification systems in remote banking channels. The updated OCR ID-verify addresses these threats by adding layered document authenticity checks – new printing techniques and fonts controls, image quality analysis, and improved digital image tampering detection. The new version of the product will be demonstrated at OCR Studio’s stand throughout the four-day exhibition.

OCR ID-verify runs entirely on the end user’s device and transmits no data to clouds, external servers, or crowdsourcing platforms. This feature protects businesses from vendor-side data breaches and helps to comply with stringent data privacy regulations like EU’s GDPR and Spain’s Organic Law on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights (LOPDGDD). Moreover, the system is device- and platform-independent, meaning that it is able to conduct anti-fraud checks on mobile phones, tablets, and desktops and can be embedded in a mobile app or browser.

One of the most important use cases for OCR ID-verify is online age verification. Age assurance requirements are already being enforced in many countries worldwide – the most notable example is the UK’s Online Safety Act which threatens fines up to £18M or 10% of global revenue for non-compliant companies. A number of other governments, including Spain, France, and Finland, are also moving toward tight restrictions on minors’ access to social platforms. In such cases, OCR Studio’s solution helps companies implement instant and secure age checks without sending clients’ data to third parties. All the system requires is a photo or a scan of any ID document – this year MWC Barcelona attendees will make sure of it themselves.

MWC Barcelona will take place at Fira Gran Via, Spain’s largest fair venue, and bring together 100,000+ visitors and 2,900 companies from 200+ countries. The event is expected to generate €585 million in economic impact.
